Each week, Lisa Jo Baker, “The Gypsy Mama” hosts a weekly meme called Five Minute Fridays. The joy of Five Minute Fridays is that Lisa gives a word prompt and writers are to “write” for FIVE minutes–no crazy editing–just write. The word for today is “AGAIN”.
Has life ever had you use the expression, Aggggggaaaaiiinnnnn (in your best whiny voice)? When you say AGAIN in your whiny voice, you are actually saying, I don’t feel like it. Life is FULL of things that need to be done AGAIN and AGAIN. I can think of more than a few things that if I never had to do them AGAIN, it would be fine with me.
The interesting thing about “AGAIN” is when we enjoy an activity, we don’t mind doing it…AGAIN. It is when we loathe the activity or when the activity causes pain that AGAIN seems like just too much.
Just before teaching class last night, I said “Aggggaaaaainnn?” in my best whiny voice. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to be there, I was exhausted. My exhaustion led me to question everything from the playlist to my shoe choice.
When we got ready to cool down, I was secretly ecstatic. “Whew, I made it”, I thought. “I won’t have to do this AGAIN until next Wednesday”.
Then the song “What a Wonderful World”, performed by Ledisi, began to play and I was reminded that AGAIN is a blessing. When she crooned the following verse, I realized AGAIN is something to be THANKFUL for:
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, “how do you do?”
They’re really saying
“I love you”

Powerful words. “Thank you God for rainbows, thank you God for the sky I get to see AGAIN and AGAIN, thank you God for these beautiful faces dancing in front of me yet AGAIN. Thank you God for loving me AGAIN and AGAIN even when I don’t notice …” I share your gratitude. Cheers. Click here to check out my 5 Minute Friday
