Last week, we danced to a song called “Light” by Karima Kibble. I have to say it is one of my favorite songs and routines. I have been listening to it in the mornings in the car on my way to work and It has challenged me to evaluate how I live. (Amazing how God uses different things to get our attention!) Just as an aside, if you EVER drive past me on I-40 be prepared to see me car dancing! (I get some of my best practice for class in the car!)
In the very first verse of the song, Karima sings: “When they see you coming, they should know what you’re about”. Then later she sings, “They should know you by the love you give away”. WOW! In the chorus she sings:
February is well know for being all about love and Valentines Day. If we are honest, the focus of all of that is a more romantic love directed at a significant other. The challenge here is much more general and day-to-day. I have had to ask myself, “DO people know me by the love I give away”. Do people know you by the love you give away?
Matthew 5: 14-16–You are like light for the whole world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden, and no one would light a lamp and put it under a clay pot. A lamp is placed on a lampstand, where it can give light to everyone in the house. Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven.
