While leading youth group last week, one of our discussion questions was: “When do you feel most like your authentic self?”
As I listened to all of the girls explain where they felt like their true authentic selves, my mind immediately visualized me dancing with all of my Dance Fit Divas each week. Yes, in the tiny town of Kernersville, in an old gym, I am my truest self when dancing with my Divas.
I am one of those people who have always danced. I took dance all through my formative years but my fondest memories are of dancing around my house. My father was a great dancer. He knew how to shag, two-step, swing dance, you name it! I LOVED dancing with him. He got the party started at my wedding reception by leading everyone in doing the Electric Slide, good times! You cannot possibly have a wedding reception WITHOUT dancing the Electric Slide!!!!
Ok, I digressed… There is just something about dancing that helps me express myself. There have been so many times that my week has been hard and I felt as though I was limping into class, only to hop on stage and teach a few songs….ahhhh all betta!
When I started our class, my intention was lead a ZUMBA class for one 8 week session. With one failed business behind me, I did NOT want to commit.
God had other plans. One eight week session turned into many sessions which ultimately turned into a business and a movement…. The Dance Fit Divas. Now, so much more than ZUMBA. Now Devoted Fitness, ZUMBA toning, and most of all, a community of women!
Who knows what else God has in store? I can’t wait to see!
On Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 6pm, the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce will conduct a small ribbon cutting ceremony before class to commemorate Dance Fit Divas becoming an offical member of the Town of Kernersville business Community.
We dance, we sweat, we fellowship, and we encourage each other. Thank you Lord for the Dance Fit Divas.
“We dance for laughter,
we dance for tears,
we dance for madness,
we dance for fears,
we dance for hopes,
we dance for screams,
we are the dancers,
we create the dreams.”
