Happy Friday Divas! A few years ago, Five Minute Friday was a weekly post for our blog. I’m so happy God saw fit for it to come back periodically!
What is Five Minute Friday? Glad you asked. Each week, Christian writers from all over the world write for five minutes on the same word and place a link to their posts on the Five Minute Friday Blog. Today’s word is OPPORTUNITY.
I have been teaching ZUMBA® on Wednesday nights for almost a decade. Since I have been teaching so long you would think I would have my Wednesday schedule organized and well-managed. Some Wednesdays, my day before class is not hurried but most Wednesdays I feel like I am blowing in like a tornado fifteen minutes before class to set up.
Even though its been almost ten years, my children seem to always need to stay after school on Wednesdays. We have our clinical and staff meetings at work on…you guessed it…Wednesday afternoons. For several years, my daughters had a practice on Wednesdays and I had to make arrangements for someone else to take or pick them up.
Often, getting to class prepared and smiling is difficult. Just this past Wednesday as I was pulling out of my driveway on two wheels I muttered: “why is every Wednesday so rush-rush?”. Then I began a series of thoughts about if the rush and stress was really worth it.
Since I was running a little behind, I did not have time to answer my question or ponder my thoughts. Class was packed! There were new faces and old faces but as I stood on my small wood stage, I noticed most of those faces were smiling at me.
Half-way through class, I had one of my students (David) join me to lead his favorite routine. As I watched David dance, tears came to my eyes. He was so happy to be dancing and embodied what sheer joy looks like.
And then, my answer came. Are the rush and stress of getting to class worth it?
YES!
Teaching dance fitness classes to the beautiful souls who fill the gym at the recreation center is truly an opportunity from God and is my ministry. I have often said, people think they are just coming to a fitness class to get a workout but when they come to a Dance Fit Divas class…they get so much more. Our classes provide inclusion, acceptance, affirmation, prayer, worship, and community.
Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil. Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:15-17)
Are you making the most of your time on earth? Is what you are spending your time on worth it?
