The Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department is infusing party fun into fitness by launching Zumba® classes this fall! Zumba® is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements, which create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system! Zumba® is a “feel-happy” workout that is great for both the body and the mind. It is based on the principle that a workout should be “FUN AND EASY TO DO”.
Participants are constantly engaged and entertained with the variety of rhythms including salsa, merengue, samba, belly dancing, cumbia, flamenco, reggaeton, and more! Even those with two left feet are successful in a Zumba® class because of the natural flow of the simple steps that radiate though the body in synch with the music. With over 60,000 classes in the world, and over 7.5 million people moving to the beat each week, The Kernersville Parks and Recreation is joining the largest and fastest growing fitness craze in the world!
The Kernersville Parks and Recreation Zumba® class will run for an eight week session September 13-November 3, 2010. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm-8pm at the Kernersville Parks and Recreation Center located at 125 East Bodenhamer Street in Kernersville. A Free Kick-Off Event will be held on September 11, 2010 from 11am-12noon. The class is open to the public and does not require a commitment OR membership fees. Participants may purchase the entire 8 week session for $56.00, or pay $5.00 per class.
The class will be taught by Katina Rice, a Kernersville resident, who is a pharmacist by day and a Zumba® instructor by night! Katina trained as a dancer for over ten years and was originally certified to teach aerobics while in college. She became a licensed Zumba® instructor in March of this year and has taught in several facilities all over the Triad. Katina completed an advanced Zumba training in July of this year and is scheduled to complete the training for licensure for ZumbaAtomic, (a high-octane workout designed for kids ages 4-12), in October of this year.
