Five Minute Friday-Regret

FMF Regret

Happy Friday Divas! A few years ago, Five Minute Friday was a weekly post for  our blog.  I’m so happy God saw fit for it to come back!

What is Five Minute Friday?  Glad you asked. Each week, Christian writers from all over the world write for five minutes on the same word and place a link to their posts on the Five Minute Friday Blog.  Today’s word is REGRET.

Regret is one of those words we just don’t like. Once you have experienced it, you really don’t want to be friends with it again.

One good thing about getting older is that I have been through a few things and I have noticed some choices and patterns that produce regret.  Although five Krispy Kreme doughnuts smell so good and simply melt in my mouth when they are hot, experience has taught me…I will regret eating them later.  Although the word “SALE” makes my heart beat a little faster and the thought of getting a really good deal makes me happy, my wiser years on earth have helped me recognize…I will regret un-budgeted spending… later.

Yet sometimes, we feel optimistic (it happened to them but it won’t happen me) so we dance with choices that are horrible partners who step our toes, clap off beat, and drop us during our dramatic dip finale.  It is when we fall and experience the pain of being dropped…we remember regret.  Once we start to regret things, we begin to say futile statements that all begin with…”If only I had”.

In our dance fitness classes, the music is really loud and participants are so focused on doing the correct steps, they are not focused on the events of the day or past regrets. Hip to hip, women of all races, ages, and stages shake their shimmys in our classes while dealing with their own regrets. On a simple a gym floor, regret is escaped…temporarily.

But to leave our regrets behind for good, we must have a repentant heart and leave them at the only place that can bear their weight…the cross.

For [godly] sorrow that is in accord with the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but worldly sorrow [the hopeless sorrow of those who do not believe] produces death. 2 Corinthians 7:10 (AMP)

Five Minute Friday-Voice

Five Minute FridayEvery Friday, Lisa Jo Baker hosts a blog link up called Five Minute Fridays (FMF). She provides a word prompt and then participants are to set their timers for five minutes and write until the timer goes off.  I am so thankful that I found Five Minute Fridays!  FMF gives me an opportunity to just “freestyle”! Many of you have told me that you really enjoy reading the FMF posts!  The word for today is VOICE. Happy Friday Divas and here goes:

The VOICE is one to those things we rarely think about.  Our VOICE is one of the ways we use to communicate, to speak our mind, to make our requests known.  For all of the divas from the south out there, it is our VOICE with our southern drawl that let’s everyone know that we are country girls!

I have found that our fitness classes have provided a VOICE for many women.  Ladies come to class with the weight of the world and they squat, punch, and salsa all over their problems.  If only for a moment, they are able to step away from “the drama”.

Some people have one of “those VOICES”; the kind that you recognize without seeing them.  Yet others have VOICEs so soft that we have to listen really intently to hear them.  For me, God’s VOICE is often like that.  When my life gets busy and the to-do list gets longer, I find it hard to hear Him.

In class, we always cool down with a song of worship.  One of my favorites is Laura Cooksey’s song, REST.  Based on Matthew 11:28, the song reminds us to go to God with our burdens.   Last night when we cooled down to REST, it was amazing to watch you all worship our great GOD.  I glanced over and saw one lady with her arms stretched to the Lord, her eyes were closed and her head was tilted back… right then I felt God’s VOICE remind me that HE is in control.

Five Minute Friday-Graceful

Five Minute FridayEvery Friday, Lisa Jo Baker hosts a blog link up called Five Minute Fridays. She provides a word prompt and then participants are to set their timers for five minutes and then write until the timer goes off.  The word for today is Graceful.  Happy Friday Divas and here goes:

When I tell people  I am a dance fitness instructor, they quickly inform me that they think our class MIGHT be fun but they:  can’t dance, don’t have any rhythm, and are too clumsy to join us.  My answer to them:  being graceful or even being able to dance is NOT a requirement.  All that is required is an open mind and the ability to laugh at yourself!

One of the reasons we start class with everyone finding a neighbor and looking them in the eyes and informing them “No matter how hard you try, you cannot look like me”, is to release the fear of having to perform every step perfectly and full of grace.

As we salsa through the dance of life, we have moments of graceful footwork.  Sometimes, we are tripping over every thing in our path.  Other times,  like Paula Abdul, we are awkwardly taking two steps forward and two steps back.

The great joy is that God is Always with us.
